Last oldie for a while I think.  A tree behind our house in NY about 16 years ago...it succumbed to wind and came down a few years after I made this photograph.  (4x5)

I think I'm getting toward the end of photographs I made over a decade ago with my 4x5 camera.  Not all of them, of course, but the ones I still think are worthwhile.  Here's one I made of a stream that I had photographed previously which no longer runs between trees like this as all those trees are gone. I'm glad I have the scenes on film, because they are not coming back the way they were ever again.  (4x5)

Here are a few more from the archive taken in 2004 and 2005.  The black dirt region of Orange County, NY is an extremely fertile area that was an ancient seabed.  All sorts of vegetables are grown there, especially onions.  Most of all, it's an extremely beautiful area, and I miss it a lot!  (Shen Hao 4x5, 150mm G-Claron and other lenses.)

Archive diving is a lot of fun!  I get to revisit places I used to go near wherever I was living at the time, and also see what I thought was worthy of a photograph.  This was made in Harriman SP in autumn many years ago with my first 4x5 camera.

Sometimes the conditions that motivate a photograph are fleeting, disappearing in a moment or two, or an hour or so.  The site of this image isn't particularly memorable on its own, but with tide and sky participating, becomes interesting.  (MF Film)

I continue to revisit places I've been to in the past to see if there's anything I hadn't seen, or didn't pay much attention to.  Well...there are!  A bunch of them.  Here are two photographs I made yesterday of a site I've been to a lot, but from a different place for the camera which yielded these 'new' views.  (MF Film #15 deep yellow filter, polarizing filter, 45mm lens)

Here's another from the archives. The lovely little tree in the center succumbed to a storm some time after I made this photograph.  The scene is of the woods behind our house in NY, which I really do miss.  I don't miss the taxes or blizzards though.  I'm okay with where I live now.  (4x5, 250mm)

I don't remember anything about this except that I made it at a park in Croton-on-Hudson that borders on the Hudson River.  I think it's from the turn of this century.

 I was happy to come across a binder with a lot of old negatives, the earliest of which seems to be 1998.  Here are three from that year made on Grand Manan Island, Canada.  It's accessible only by ferry. I had the most delicious smoked salmon that was so fresh it was still warm when  I bought it at a store near these docks.  (Pentax 67)

Like low hanging fruit, I've found most of the obvious local places that I wanted to photograph.  Now, I'm looking in the same locations, but at less accessible parts of them.  It doesn't surprise me that I'm finding scenes I like just as much as the original attractions in each.  Here are two photographs I found in a slightly remote place I've driven past countless times without noticing.  The third photograph is of a shrimp boat at its dock that I've photographed before, but this time the light and the sky differed greatly from previous encounters.  (P67, #15 deep yellow filter, Ilford Delta 100 film)

It's really surprising how quickly spring growth appears and matures in this region.  I should have planned a photo trip for this weekend, but didn't think of it.  It will mostly be too late a week from now, and I'm so busy on the weekdays that I probably won't get out at all.  This photograph was made this morning in the backyard. The light blooms are Carolina Jessamine and appeared overnight fully formed.  They'll likely be gone in another day, so I'm glad I at least got this image. (MF Film - 300mm lens)
 

 

Returning home from a trip north, we drove through Fargo, a tiny town in Georgia.  The road crossed a small bridge over the Suwanee River.  The banks were lined  with interesting trees that got my immediate attention.  I've posted a couple of images from there before (I don't remember when, btw), and came across these two just recently.   (MF Film)

The light was particularly dull for my first visit to Egan's Creek.  It's a long greenway very close to the ocean and east of the Intracoastal.  So I photographed the marsh grass which was new to me, and these two ancient trees whose lifeless skeletons remain neither needing exciting light.  The third photograph is of the creek just plain and simple.  (MF Film)

Sometimes, I don't fully react to certain images right away, and sometimes even for years!  Here are two photographs I made years ago that I ignored for some reason I no longer recall.  Well, here they are now.  I like 'em!  (MF Film)

Corporate parks can be soulless cubicle farm centers, or more thoughtfully designed and quite attractive campuses.  The YMCA I belong to is sited in the latter, and rather than use a treadmill in the gym, I enjoy walking on the tree lined walkways that allow a pretty decent workout.  It surprises me that I see few of the office drones enjoying the grounds at lunchtime, but perhaps they feel they need to work through lunch and just stay at their desks. Near the Y is a lovely lake with benches and trees. At one end of it there are a clump of cypress trees.  Here are two pictures of one of those trees.

I like this stretch of sand because of the rocks.  Rocks are rare in Florida, at least where I live, so seeing these is a treat even if they're 'imported' from elsewhere.  The second photograph is of a lonely tree exiled to live in a field of palmettos (which I detest!).  (MF Film)

I don't usually go out in the later afternoon as far away from home as I was for these, but I thought it was eminently worthwhile today!  I have an annual pass for all Florida state parks, and this is one I particularly like.   (MF Film)

I've taken some time to try to see what's local with fresh eyes.  It's hard not repeating what I've already done with what appeals to me here, and 'here' is where I principally make photographs. Yesterday, I went to a place I've been to many times, but found a part of it I'd not been to before and made the first three of these four photographs.  The fourth image is not in a new place, but the angle and the light appealed to me in the moment, so I made the photograph.  (MF Film)

Odd for a day in this part of Florida to be completely overcast without any detail in the sky.  Still, I wanted to use my camera, and I knew where there might be at least a somewhat interesting subject.  So, these two photographs were made in the same spot with the camera pointing in different directions.  (MF Film)
