A few days ago,  my wife and I planted a Japanese maple tree sapling hoping that its partially shaded location would keep it from excessive heat. Where we live in northeast Florida is pretty much the southern limit for these trees, so we're hoping this little guy will make it. And why go to the trouble? Because I miss the vibrant colors of autumn in NY, and this tree's job will be to turn yellow when it's ready! ;) Even though it has been in the ground less than a week, its starting to leaf out. 

I was surprised today when I went for the eleventeenth time to Cedar Point to find a part of it I'd not been to before. And, there was a lot that I thought would be interesting to photograph. Here are some of those.

Though I've made scores of trips to Big Talbot Island SP,  I had not hiked the area I photographed today. There are so many fallen, bleached trees in parts of the beach, that it's not difficult to imagine most or all of those that remain will meet the same fate in a few decades, and with rising seas due to climate change, there will be much less land for new growth. I've been looking forward to visiting the lake at Deerwood when the light was more or less directly overhead as the leaves get beautifully illuminated. Here are six of the photographs I made today, February 27th, 2023.

The road between The Ribault Club and Kingsley Plantation is attractive in itself, but leads to a path through the woods to some ancient stonework walls. Here are some photographs I made there yesterday.

On my return from a place that wasn't nearly as interesting as I thought it would be, I took a scenic route instead of the interstate. It was a very windy afternoon, and the road that went beside the St. Johns River was far more compelling than where I'd come from. Here's the evidence! ;)))

The fallen trees at Blackrock Beach, mistakenly referred to as driftwood, never get visually boring. The wind, tide and occasionally rough weather endure their frequently changed orientation and immediate environment.  Here are three photographs I made on Valentine's Day with my oldest film camera: a Mamiya C220 using 55mm and 135mm lenses. I also used a 25A red and 15 deep yellow filter. 

I often return to the Ft. George inlet area and the shrimp boat dock on the way there.  Here are today's photographs from both places. 

Film is increasingly costly and less tempting to 'waste' with ill-considered experiments. So, I was happy to come across a few rolls of long expired Tri-X that didn't need to be exposed as sure-fire 'keepers'!  Here's one image that I liked from that roll. It's a view of the sky from our backyard. 

I have an annual state parks pass that I've not use much this past year.  Yesterday, I decided to go to Little Talbot Island SP whether I felt like it or not!  As it turned out, it was interesting to see the beach and the road to it on a weekday morning. Of course, I took my camera! 

I took this photograph in 2018 I think, but never posted it for some reason I no longer remember. As there are coquina rocks at the shore, I must have made the photograph at Marineland Beach.

The gym I go to is in a YMCA. When I finish with the weight machines, I walk outside rather than on a treadmill. The path is quite attractive with two man made lakes and abundant trees. I made a special trip with my camera today, and made these photographs. 

When the ocean is so close, it's easy to overlook the many interesting scenes along the St. Johns River. Here are four I photographed today, January 19th 2023.

 I love this particular place beside the St. Johns River. There is often a shrimp boat tied up to a dock, a great sky, and luminous mud. Here are two photographs from today, January 18th, but no shrimp boat!

As interesting as using the Holga 120WPC is, the photographs I've made with it so far are nothing special beyond their novelty. I've taken my regular film camera with me too, and, though these images aren't particularly notable either,  at least they're sharp and contrasty.  The camera, incidentally, is a Pentax 67. Here is one I made in our side yard, and two I made at Ft. George Inlet after using the Holga.

Ah, the irony!  The film I was using for the Holga 120WPC costs nine dollars and change per roll. The results with this 'toy' camera were just not worth that much money and  time. However, today in the back of a cabinet I found two rolls of Kodak TMax 120 film that had expired in 2001, and got the best results yet! Go figure!!  Here are two of the photographs:

A rather inauspicious outing in the neighborhood with the Holga 120WPC (Wide angle Pinhole Camera) because I forgot to take off the lens cap and most of the roll was blank!  I can't treat this camera like any other I've ever used as EVERYTHING it does has to be done by me!! LOL!  This photograph is the lone survivor! I noticed, too, that my shadow is in the center at the bottom. A truly mysterious selfie!
