This must be THE season for spectacular skies!  Pretty much every afternoon the clouds build and billow often resulting in rain.  Among nice cloud days, this was an especially nice one.

 The clouds, that were minimal at first, gradually gathered in strength and numbers.  Within less than an hour after I had made these photographs, there was a torrential storm with lightning, thunder and blinding rain. I could not decide among the  path to the beach images which I liked best, so here are two of them. 

 In the way back machine again, these from Orange County, NY in 2011.  Incidentally, Blogspot has changed the way photographs can be presented by allowing extremely flexible sizing rather than the previous S, M, L and XL options. From here forward, the images I post will be better suited to the space available than they had been.

Storms threatened all of the time I was photogarphing yesterday, but held off until I had finished the last frame of the second roll of film. Here's some of what I photographed.

The ocean is very, very rarely calm. Inland, though, it's a lot more likely.  I was really happy to find this today.

It's a recent imperative for me to find worthwhile subjects away from the ocean and beach.  I have made so many of those images that it's more and more difficult to not be repetitive. The three photographs below are also repetitive, but less so than ocean and beach. They are of Pumpkin Point and two feature Spanish Moss that I simply cannot get enough of! (Hey, I'm a Yankee...ya know!)

For years I've avoided photographing in the later afternoon for several reasons. But, in doing so, I've missed some wonderful afternoon light and the accumulation of clouds that usually occurs then. Yesterday I broke that pattern and spent some worthwhile time at Dutton Island Preserve. Here are two from that trip.

Getting away from the beach is good for me right now.  My photographic imagination is a bit stale so I'm forcing myself inland, even just in my backyard.  The bike path photograph is from Big Talbot Island SP;  the Angel Trumpet flower image is from the backyard last evening at dusk.

I returned to Little Talbot Island State Park again today to make a few more photographs including two of rather high dunes. It's rare in this part of Florida to find anything that isn't fairly flat, but surprisingly there are some dunes that qualify as quite elevated.  The other photograph is an odd looking tree relic with about ten legs!

Returning to Little Talbot Island SP today, I hiked a trail through the forest that I'd not been on before. It was a two mile slog to the beach in sultry, mosquito filled air, but I enjoyed it a lot anyway. Here is a view of the forest path, and a few more beach scenes.

As often as I've visited Little Talbot Island State Park, I have rarely gone north up the beach. It's a very long walk, but it's rewarding visually as there are so many beached and bleached trees to photograph.  Here are three:

It may sound ridiculous, but I'm somewhat bored with making photographs at the ocean. I've made so many I need time away in a different environment so I can return to the sea visually refreshed. One thing that's particularly nice here is there are several beautiful parks that are free and easy to access. The one I visited today is a very extensive salt marsh called Castaway Island. Here are three photographs I made there today.

Getting out now is a big relief though I'm doing it by myself. I've seen no one at all anywhere near me, so I'm sure I've been safe. Here are a few from these adventures.

Three from Big Talbot Island SP

As we are now required to 'shelter in place', and I can't go to my favorite haunts to photograph, I've been scanning old work from NY.  These three are from 2006 taken in Minnewaska SP on the Shawangunk Ridge (locally referred to as "the Gunks").  I schlepped a 4x5 monorail view camera up the 'mountain' which was one reason I later bought a more compact 4x5 field camera that was easier to schlepp!
